KBA Committee

Overseeing the KBA Programme

The KBA Committee formed of the KBA Partners is the main decision-making body of the KBA Partnership. It oversees the development and implementation of the KBA Strategic Plan and makes strategic decisions to enhance the impact of the KBA Programme. The KBA Committee also oversees:

  • Joint fundraising efforts among KBA Partners
  • Allocation of raised funds
  • Appointment of KBA Secretariat staff
  • Promotion of KBAs and the KBA brand

The KBA Committee includes representatives of each KBA Partner, along with an independent chair or co-chairs, and meets three times a year to ensure ongoing progress and collaboration.

Naomi Kingston is Vice President, Global Resource Mobilisation for Conservation International. With years of experience in the conservation of sites and in the management of the Protected Planet database, Dr Kingston helps guide the implementation of the KBA programme.

Paul Matiku

Co-Chair KBA Committee

Paul Matiku is the Executive Director of Nature Kenya. With his innovative approaches and leadership, Dr Matiku has supported the establishment of Key Biodiversity Areas as a global standard for nature conservation and chairs the KBA National Coordination Group in Kenya.
