Site details


Site description: Spanning around 20000 ha of lowlands it represent the largest area in the whole country covered with native Common Oak forests. This IBA is situated in western Srem district in Vojvodina Province and borders with Sava river in south, Croatian border in west, motorway Belgrade-Zagreb in north and agricultural land of Sremska Mitrovica municipality on east. There is no inhabitats inside, but area was surrounded by six settlements in Sremska Mitrovica and Šid municipalities. Almost every year the lower parts of area is flooded by subterranean waters.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 2014-10-14 (BL Secretariat): following Puzović (2009), site area changed from 17500 ha to 25931 ha; coordinates changed from 45N 19.167E to 44°57'45'N 19°12'43'E.
