Site details


Site description: A lake partly fed by springs and drained by underground streams and by a canal. In some years the lake dries up and is used for cultivation. The surrounding area is a mixture of scrub and agricultural areas. Human activities include arable agriculture, stock-raising and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for breeding, passage and wintering waterbirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla.
