Site details
Site description: The site is dominated by maquis, phrygana and limited arable land. A small lake and some saltpans are included. There are many mines and quarries.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for migrating waterbirds and species associated with coastal cliffs and scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca, Falco naumanni (5 breeding pairs), Larus audouinii.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The most serious threat is from the existence and expansion of the mines and quarries. Tourism is limited to the beaches at Achivadolimni. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
