Site details
Site description: A small island, and its associated islets, between Kithira and Crete. Antikithira is covered mainly by low maquis and phrygana with a few arable areas and olive-groves. Prasouda is covered by low maquis and phrygana. Human activities include stock-raising, fishing, agriculture, and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important area for breeding and passage raptors and seabirds.
