Site details


Site description: The site lies to the south-east of the island of Astypalea. The islets are dominated by Juniperus scrub and phrygana. Human activities include stock-raising, fishing, and arable agriculture.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The area is important for passage migrants and breeding seabirds and raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii (11 breeding pairs).
