Site details


Site description: A complex of small islands and islets east of Naxos. The majority are covered with maquis and phrygana. Human activities include fishing, stock-raising, tourism and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for breeding seabirds and raptors associated with coastal cliffs. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii.
