Site details
Site description: A complex of raised bogs, heathland, open water, forested areas and some improved grasslands. The site is located west of the city of Assen.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: An important roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas, but no counts are available.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: name and area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
