Site details

Site description: A fairly large offshore archipelago in the middle of the Gulf of Finland. The mainly small and rocky islands and islets are separated by large expanses of open sea. The larger islands support mixed forest or Juniperus stands, sometimes interspersed with small patches of meadow.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: An important area for island-breeding birds, including the only nationally important breeding cliff for Uria aalge (23-28 pairs).
