Site description: Group of salt-lakes partly covered by fringe vegetation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Up to 240000 waterfowls are stopping here on spring migration, up to 1500000-3000000 - on fall migration, up to 50000 are wintering here. Up to 30000 breeding pairs of 50 bird species occur here in the summer.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-06: IBA area changed from 230,000 ha to 185,800 ha (by BL Secretariat, following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 46°57'7'N 41°18'29'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 185800 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
