Site details
Site description: The upper reaches of the river Teberda on the northern slopes of Bolshoi Caucasus.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This area is also a bottleneck for many raptors - certainly more then 3000 in total, but no special counts have been made.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-20 (BL Secretariat): IBA area changed from 85,000 ha to 85,064 ha (following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 43°27'28'N 41°18'59'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 85064 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
