Site details
Site description: It is located about 130 km south of Tokyo metropolitan area and has Mt Miyatsukayama with an altitude of 508 m at the center of the islet. Its soil mainly consists of basalt. The whole islet is covered with Camellia japonica.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
