Site details
Site description: It is located about 170 km south of Tokyo metropolitan area. This island on the whole has a lot of sheer slopes and little flatland, with precipitous cliffs on the west side especially. It is formed of rhyolite mainly.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
