Site details

Site description: Located in Huzhong District of Da Hinggan Ling Region. Huzhong Nature Reserve lies between the main ridge of the Da Hinggan Ling mountains and the north-eastern slope of the Yilehuli Shan mountains, and it is the only nature reserve in the taiga forest zone in China.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: There are 56 species of mammals in the reserve, including the nationally protected Alces alces, Gulo gulo and Martes zibellina.
Delineation rationale: WDPA polygon used however, boundary v. crude and bears little relationship to underlying geography.
