Site details
Site description: Low-lying peninsula with numerous lakes connected by channels with each other and to the Pechora Sea.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: One of the most important sites in north European Russia for breeding swans, geese, and ducks, and for moulting swans (2,000), geese (30,000--40,000), and ducks (100,000). Recent count data are not available for any bird species.
Delineation rationale: 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 68°45'16'N 58°38'15'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 192050 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
