Site details


Site description: Located in the mountainous region around the Lhasa River. The habitat below 3,900 m is dry river valley scrub, from 3,900-4,500 m there is scrub dominated by Spiraea spp. on sunny slopes and Rhododendron parvifolium on the shaded slopes, from 4,500-4,900 m there is short Cypress spp. in sunny areas and Rhododendron parvifolium and Salix spp. on the shaded slopes, from 4,500-4,900 m there is Rhododendron parvifolium scrub, and from 4,900-5,200 m there is meadow. Above 5,200 m is high-mountain alpine vegetation, with bare rocks above and no glacial development.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
