Site details
Site description: Shengjin Hu is located on the southern shore of the Yangtze River, in south-west Anhui Province, 10 km from Anqing City. In 1965 the construction of Huangpan Gate separated the lake from the Yangtze River, and formed a reservoir. The fishery resources have decreased dramatically since then.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: The nationally protected fish Myxocyprinus asiaticus occurs in the lake.
Delineation rationale: Boundary digitized by Gill Bunting at Birdlife International using Google Earth. Accuracy probably OK.
