Site details
Site description: Located on the northern bank of the middle to lower reaches of the Yangtze River, where Anhui borders Hebei and Jiangxi provinces. There are about 133,000 ha of wetlands at Anqing, of which some are in a protected area. The major lakes include Caizi Hu and Wuchang Hu. Surveys in 2004 indicated that over 250,000 waterbirds occur in the reserve.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
