Site details
Site description: Badagongshan Nature Reserve is located in Sangzhi County, which is near the border of Hunan and Hubei provinces. The northern part of the reserve is linked to the mountains of western Hubei, and the southern part of the reserve is linked to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Cyclocarya paliurus, Davidia involucrate and Liriodendron chinense. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa and Macaca mulatta.
