Site details


Site description: Wulingyuan is located in Zhangjiajie City, and is formed by the combination of Zhangjiajie Giant Salamander National Nature Reserve and three provincial-level nature reserves. The IBA is in the transition between the western part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the eastern lowlands.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Davidia involucrata, Tsuga longibracteata, Taxus chinensis and Liriodendron chinense. Animals include Andrias davidianus, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Naemorhedus goral, Capricornis sumatraensis and Andrias davidianus.
