Site description: The latest satellite image (not very good quality), indicates a block of good forest present in this area.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Enggano Island has two endemic bird species, Enggano Scops-owl Otus enganensis and Enggano White-eye Zosterops salvadori, both reported still exist in this area. Other important species are Great-billed Heron Ardea sumatrana and Nicobar Pigeon Caloenas nicobarida.
