Site details
Site description: Located on the western side of a road from Samarinda to Balikpapan. Forest block between Kutai-Pasir has gone because of logging and forest fire. This area is one of several places for Orang Utan release from Wanariset rehabilitation centre, and study area of a state university. Since Kutai National Park has been degraded heavily, this area is believed to become important area, but still lack of information.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
