Site details
Site description: The people of Larat Island lives on the west, north and east coast. Most of the people work as dry land farmer and fisherman. Main comodities are coconut, coffee, kapok and cashew.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: Information from this area is very limited, but predicted has restricted-range bird species. Tanimbar Starling Aplonis crassa is the one of the restricted-range bird present in this area, which only recorded in Larat Island and Tanimbar Tengah. Non-bird biodiversity: Dendrobium phalaenopsis, Chelonia mydas, Dugong dugong, Birgus latro (Monk et.al.1997).
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 6875 ha to 21974 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
