Site details
Site description: Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve lies within the Kledang Hills, a range of hills east of the Sungai Perak. This extensive area in central Perak State comprises mainly of lowland and hill dipterocarp forests. The highest point is Gunung Peninjau, at 1,058 m asl, to the north of the forest reserve. Gunung Keledang, near Ipoh, is 808 m asl, and has a telecommunications station on the peak and is also a popular hiking area for residents. At Papan, near Ipoh, the Forestry Department has established a recreational area and nursery. The Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar stretch of the North-South Highway cuts through Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Mammals that are known to occur in the range include primates such as monkeys and gibbons, wild pig, civets, Yellow-throated Marten and various other species of small mammals.
