Site details


Site description: A mountain range with cliffs, large expanses of scrub and grassland, a few Fagus and Quercus woodlands and Pinus plantations. The area is used for livestock-farming and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for cliff-nesting birds.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The main threats are from intensive forest management, overgrazing in the Fagus forest and hunting. There is a project to erect 40 wind-farms in the site. The pressure from recreational activities is increasing.
