Site details
Site description: A large, complex site comprising open dry heathland, raised bogs, sandy dunes, small wetlands, surrounded by forest. The site was used as military firing ground until recently. New IBA, listed for the first time under the IBA C criteria. High protection level: there is a 76.1% overlap with the newly designated Adazi protected landscape area and Dzelves-Krona bog restricted nature reserve, both candidate SPAs.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
