Site details


Site description: The IBA consists of an oval waterbody of moderate size to the north west of Golubovka village (Ertisky district). The general proportions of the lake fluctuate from 2.5 x 2 to 2 x 1.5 km according to the current water level phase. The lake has a mosaic of reedbeds amid a system of channels and stretches of open water.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The typical avifauna of a small steppe lake.

Habitats


Summary of habitats in KBA: The site is managed by a hunting society. Nevertheless, the area of the lake proper provides a resting place for game species and acts as a minute reserve, with shooting only taking place on the large puddles in the adjacent fields - the primary quarry is Anser anser. Landuse: agriculture (cereal, cattle, horses and sheep).
