Site details

Site description: The IBA is situated in the western part of the Fergana valley. The Pap forestry is a typical bottomland forest located along the bank of the river Syrdarya and includes the IBA.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The avifauna includes 150 species. Among the more interesting are wintering raptors - Accipiter gentilis, Buteo lagopus and Buteo buteo. Phasianus colchicus turkestanicus is numerous. Many species of Passeriformes can be found in the bottomland forest during migration. The biome-restricted Otus brucei, Dendrocopus leucopterus, Parus bokharensis and Hippolais languida occur, plus Nycticorax nycticorax and Ciconia ciconia. Non-bird biodiversity: There are typical bottomland forest plants: Populus sp., Salix sp. and a small part is covered by Tamarix sp. Mammals are represented by Lepus tolai, Canis aureus, Vulpes vulpes and some rodents (Meriones tmariscinus, Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus).
Delineation rationale: Coordinates and area of this IBA were calculated with ArcGIS.
