Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: 2007-08 (BL Secretariat): the 2000 IBA 'Eastern coast of the Sea of Azov' (SitRecID 1545; 457,300 ha) has been split into two IBAs: Delta of Kuban River (SitRecID 22260; 179,500 ha) and Taman' (SitRecID 22188; 47,500 ha). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 45°17'4'N 36°46'36'E on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World). 2009-08-20 (BL Secretariat): IBA area changed from 50,000 ha to 47,500 ha (following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making).
