Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified in the CI/CEPF Conservation Outcomes booklet for the Philippines Hotspot (2006). Taxonomy, nomenclature and threat category follow the 2004 IUCN Red List. Batanes Islands IBA is split between the 2 KBAs (Batanes Islands Protected Landscape and Seascape and Babuyanes Islands). Restricted Range Species: Pteropus dasymallus, Crocidura attenuata, Otus elegans calayensis, Treron formosae.
Delineation rationale: 02/2008: following IBA/KBA crosswalk, the 2001 IBA Batanes Islands (SitRecID 9701) has been split to form two 2006 KBAs: Batanes Islands Protected Landscape and Seascape (SitRecID 22325) and Babuyanes Islands (SitRecID 22324).
