Site description: The KBA Santuario Histórico Bosque de Pómac is a protected natural area located 31.5 km from Chiclayo, Lambayeque, Perú. It protects the largest and densest formation of algarrobo trees in Perú. It has 58.9 sq km of total area, including both a sample of the dry forest and cultural remains of high historical value. The Sanctuary conserves typical dry forest species and 36 pyramids from the Sicán Culture. The sanctuary is crossed by the La Leche River and is located in the middle part of the river valley. The climate is dry, warm, and sunny most of the year. The rainy season is between December and May. It rains mostly in the highlands and sporadically in the forest zone, but the La Leche River increases its flow considerably, literally splitting the forest in two. The warmest season is from December to May. Maximum temperatures in February and March average 33°C, and can reach a maximum of 36°C. The lowest temperature is between July and August. The lowest temperature is registered between July and August, with an average of 11°C. In its surroundings are settled populations of Muchik origin that still conserve some ancestral traditions.

This KBA harbors the Vulnerable bird Phytotoma raimondii.
Additional biodiversity: Many birds are observed on the site: Myiarchus semirufus, Psittacara erythrogenys, Vultur gryphus, Phytotoma raimondii, Octhoeca salvini, Atlapetes albiceps, Basileuterus trifasciatus, Picumnis sclateri, Piezorina cinerea, Rhynchospiza stolzamanni, Sicalis taczanowskii, Synallaxis stictothorax, Tachycineta stolzamanni the range restricted and Ardea cocoi, Arremon abeillei, Burhinus superciliaris, Cantorchilus superciliaris, Charadrius collaris, Cyanocorax mystacalis, Forpus coelestis, Geositta peruviana, Icterus graceannae, Melanopareia elegans, Myiarchus phaeocephalus, Myiodynastes bairdii, Myiopagis subplacens, Myiothlypis fraseri, Myrmia micrura, Nyctidromus anthonyi, Pardirallus sanguinolentus, Plegadis ridgwayi, Pseudelaenia leucospodia, Sarkidiornis sylvicola, Sporophila simplex, Thamnophilus bernardi, Turdus reevei, Cantorchilus superciliaris, Leucophaeus pipixcan.
