Site details

Site description: This area of the Zadar islands (Premuda, Silba, Olib, Skarda, Ist, Molat, etc.) between Island of Losinj and Dugi otok are characterised by shallow sea and numerous islets. It is important breeding place for fish-eating seabirds. Silbanski grebeni islets are the most important nesting place for Shag populations in Croatia. Main threats are unregulated touristic and recreational activities and overfishing.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: Area changed from 72457 ha to 13545 ha, as part of 2010 revision of IBAs/proposed SPAs.
