Site description: The KBA Laguna de los Cóndores covers an area of 2778.335 sq km and it's located in Perú, within the province of Mariscal Cáceres in the department of San Martín and the provinces of Chachapoyas and Luya in the department of Amazonas. The altitude range of the KBA Laguna de los Cóndores is from 500-4300 masl. There are five climate types in the KBA Laguna de los Cóndores: 1) Temperate, rainy with abundant humidity all seasons of the year, the maximum temperature ranges from 25°C to 29°C, the minimum temperature ranges from 11°C to 17°C and the annual precipitation ranges from 1200 mm to 3000 mm. The other climate types present in small proportions in this region are: 2) Cold, very rainy with abundant humidity all seasons of the year (to the west), 3) Temperate, very rainy with abundant humidity all seasons of the year 4) Temperate, semi-dry with abundant humidity all seasons of the year (to the north) and 5) Warm, rainy with abundant humidity all seasons of the year (to the east). The main habitats are the humid forests, cloud forests, the dwarf forest and the páramo. The KBA Laguna de los Cóndores presents ca. 40% of "Bosque montano de Yunga (Yunga montane forest)", ca. 27% of "Bosque altimontano (Pluvial) de Yunga (Yunga altimontane (pluvial) forest)", ca. 14% of "Bosque basimontano de Yunga (Yunga basimontane forest)", ca. 13% of Jalca, ca. 4% of Secondary Vegetation and 1% of Grasslands.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Laguna de los Cóndores qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1, B1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBA. The KBA Laguna de los Cóndores harbors four threatened amphibians, eight range-restricted birds and three vulnerable plants (Brachyotum angustifolium, Polylepis multijuga and Gynoxys colanensis).
Additional biodiversity: Mammals: Akodon orophilus, Nephelomys albigularis, Oligoryzomys microtis, Sturnira erythromos, Platyrrhinus ismaeli, Platyrrhinus umbratus, Sturnira oporaphilum, Thomasomys ischyrus, Tremarctos ornatus. Birds: Spizaetus isidori , Poecilotriccus luluae, Picumnus steindachneri, Ara militaris, Sericossypha albocristata, Vultur gryphus, Nephelornis oneilli, Megascops koepckeae, Tigrisoma fasciatum, Gallinago jamesoni, Iridosornis reinhardti, Uromyias agraphia, Nephelomyias ochraceiventris, Andigena hypoglauca, Colaptes rupicola, Spatula puna, Silvicultrix pulchella, Thripadectes scrutator, Grallaria andicolus, Cyanolyca viridicyanus, Pseudospingus xanthophthalmus, Thlypopsis pectoralis, Iridosornis reinhardti, Nephelornis oneilli, Cranioleuca berlepschi, Cinnycerthia peruana. Plants species include: Corryocactus chachapoyensis, Epiphyllum phyllanthus, Hylocereus megalanthus, Matucana krahnii, Rauhocereus riosaniensis. Pristimantis schultei, Pristimantis melanogaster, Pristimantis corrugatus, Pristimantis wagteri
Manageability of the site: Since the KBA Laguna de los Cóndores enclosures part of the San Pedro de Chuquibamba Private Conservation Area, the Conservation Concession of the Cooperativa Agraria Cacaotera-Acopagro LTDA, the Conservation Concession El Breo-Dos de Mayo Community Forest Protection Association, Alto Huayabamba (APROBOC), fragile ecosystem of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Huicungo - APAHUI, Conservation Concession of the Association 'Amazónicos por la Amazonía' (AMPA), the Alto Huayabamba Fragile Ecosystem, Los Chilchos Private Conservation Area and Nationally Prioritized Zone Chilchos - Huabayacu - Jelache, this KBA can be potentially managed by the National Service of Protected Natural Areas - SERNANP or the National Forest and Wildlife Service - SERFOR.

Delineation rationale: In general, the KBA Laguna de los Cóndores follows the limits of the original KBA Laguna de los Cóndores, being modified to the northeast with the limit of the Los Chilchos Private Conservation Area and to the north following the relief of the terrain in order to add AZE zones. To the west it limits with the KBA Alto Huayabamba, to the south with the KBA Buffer Zone of the Río Abiseo National Park.
