Site details


Site description: Six rocky islands and outlying skerries located about 30 km west of Lewis, and supporting predominantly maritime grassland vegetation. A lighthouse is situated within the IBA. These islands are of major importance for their breeding seabird colonies.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989; no significant boundary changes since then. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
