Site details


Site description: The IBA comprises stretches of blanket bog, with lochans, in addition to a variety of other habitats including wet and dry heaths and mires, acid grassland and areas of marsh. The site supports a suite of breeding moorland birds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1992; no significant boundary changes since then. Digitised onto 1:50,000 scale OS maps.
