Site details

Site description: The Kwobrup-Badgebup IBA supports at least 1% of the breeding population of Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo. The IBA boundaries are defined by two known areas of suitable nesting habitat and other remnant vegetation. The IBA is located in the southern wheatbelt of Western Australia and is comprised of wandoo woodland remnants and associated remnant vegetation. The Railway Dam, bitumen catchment, grain silos, recreation area and transport facilities located in the reserves are excluded from the IBA. The IBA has a Mediterranean climate.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Biome-restricted Red-capped Parrot and Western Spinebill have also been recorded in the IBA and are probably irregular visitors (D. Stojanovic pers. comm. 2008). Non-bird biodiversity: Declared Rare Flora recorded in this IBA include Acacia grisea and Daviesia crassa.
Other site values: Local government (Shire of Katanning); Waters and Rivers Commission (Water Corporation).
