Site details
Site description: Located in the south-eastern corner of Nanhui District, in the Qiantang Jiang estuary, roughly in the middle of the Chinese coastline. It comprises a long inter-tidal strip extending about 40 km from the border of Pudong and Nanhui districts in the north to the gulf of Hangzhou Wan in the south, with a width of 3-5 km from the sea to the Lianggang-Nanlu highway. It occupies about 18% of the land area of Nanhui District. The IBA faces severe development pressure, and about 13,300 ha of the inter-tidal areas in Nanhui were reclaimed for urban construction in 2003.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: Boundary digitized by Gill Bunting at Birdlife International using Google Earth. Accuracy difficult to determine.
