Site details


Site description: The area of Okanj and Rusanda represent an alluvial plane of the Tisa river in the area of Central Banat. The largest water depressions in the area are remnants of the old water course of the Tisa river. Vast areas of saline pastures, salt marshes, ponds and wet meadows dominate the landscape. The area is surrounded by four settlements: Kumane, Melenci, Elemir and Taraš.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
