Site details

Site description: A shallow fjord with shoals and banks. Islets and coastal areas support saltmarsh, forest and agricultural land, and smaller areas of plantation and heathland.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Numbers of wintering Cygnus olor and Branta bernicla have decreased markedly since 1980 because of reductions in eel-grass Zostera, on which both species feed. Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Sterna sandvicensis and S. paradisaea, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
