Site details
Site description: The area is situated in the far west of the country, near river Drina and the state border with Bosnia&Herzegovina. It represents a large mountainous region, extending over 60km between cities of Valjevo and Bajina Bašta and Drina river. It is comprised of several distinct landscape features, such as mountains Maljen, Povlen, Medvednik, Jablanik, Bobija, Sokolina, as well as gorges of river Trešnjica, Gradac and others. The majority of the IBA is covered with deciduous forests, intertwined with numerous streams, meadows and pastures.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 2014-10-14 (BL Secretariat): following Puzović (2009), site area changed from 11000 ha to 56291 ha; coordinates changed from 44.15N 19.567E to 44°8'34'N 19°47'47'E.
