Site details
Site description: An area of mudflats, beaches and offshore sand-dune islands on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony. The site featured in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989) as former site DE034, but also includes former site DE033 (Dollart; 5,000 ha).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: A site of international importance for breeding, moulting, passage and wintering waterbirds, especially wildfowl (Anatidae) and waders.
