Site details


Site description: The mouth of a small river in a small bay on the Black Sea coast. There is a sand beach and a mudflat, a large area of reedbeds of Phragmites, Typha and Schoenoplectus, and secondary broadleaved woodland on the nearby slopes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is of global importance for Numenius tenuirostris on passage and in winter, and is one of the most important sites in the country for breeding Phalacrocorax pygmeus and Plegadis falcinellus. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Pelecanus crispus (common on passage). Significant proportion (³1%) of national population breeding at site: Ixobrychus minutus (2-3 pairs).
