Site details

Site description: Las islas principales miden entre 50 y 65 m de alto y son muy escarpadas, con acantilados en su lado sur. El sustrato es de rocas cubiertas de guano, sin vegetación.

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.

Additional biodiversity: Sula leucogaster, debido a sus más de 6000 individuos anidando. Phaethon aethereus, con probablemente más de 100 individuos anidando.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: No se conoce ninguna amenaza actualmente, En su prospección, Mellink y Riojas (2005) no encontraron indicaciones de ello y lo atribuyeron a que la isla no se utiliza como campamento pesquero, ni para otros fines, dada su cercanía con la Barra de Potosí y lo escarpado de sus laderas.
