Site details


Site description: Several small islands covered mainly with tundra and dwarf-shrub heath vegetation, as well as some small lakes and bogs. Egg-collecting takes place (`Other' land-use).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The archipelago is also important as a staging area for passage waders. Cepphus grylle breeds (179 pairs, 1996) and Rhodostethia rosea occasionally breeds.
