Site details

Site description: A fjord between two large islands situated off the west Swedish coast, with extensive shallow waters and a Zostera-covered clay sea-floor. The islands have well-managed coastal meadows with a saltmarsh character and some forest, mostly deciduous and dominated by Quercus. Human activities include boating, swimming, fishing, and grazing for conservation purposes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The IBA is also important for passage waterbirds and waders. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (4-10 wintering birds).
Delineation rationale: Old area: 8500ha Changed due to more accurate information on borders and size. /Robert Ekblom (2007-10-23)
