Site details

Site description: The site includes two lakes (Teutjärvi and Suvijärvi) connected by a narrow ditch at the mouth of the Kymi river. Teutjärvi is a large, shallow-shored lake with some reedbeds and surrounded by cultivated farmland. Fishing is regular, and the water-level has been artificially reduced to prevent flooding. Suvijärvi lake has extensive reedbeds.

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: Cultivated farmland around the lakes holds fairly good numbers of the globally threatened Crex crex. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (passage).

Manageability of the site: Site identified based on BirdLife International's Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, under which manageability is strongly recommended but not explicitly documented
