Site details
Site description: Sibate and Soacha KBA, previously known as Fusagasuga, it's located between the municipalities of Sibate and Soacha in the Cundinamarca department in Colombia. Is an area that covers 181km2 with a topography that can be classified as flat and undulating terrain. La Laguna de Sibaté is one of the most valuable treasures of Colombia in terms of biodiversity and natural beauty. This lagoon is an important wetland (also considered as a RAMSAR importance site) that hosts a great diversity of fauna and flora, and it is also a significant water resource for the region.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This area is important for the conservation of an endangered and range-restricted species identified from AZE which is Hyloxalus ruizi that triggered the A1e criteria.
Manageability of the site: This area should be managed by Sibate and Soacha Municipal Mayor's Office. Also by the environmental authority that is CAR (Corporación Autónoma Reigonal de Cundinamarca)
Delineation rationale: This new boundaries for Fusagasuga were stablished using whole Sibate municipality boundaries and the Southeast Soacha using altitude higher than 2900 meters
