Site description: A mountainous area covered by Fagus, Quercus, and Castanea forest and Pinus plantations. Evergreen broadleaved forests also occur. Human activities include agriculture, forestry, and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for breeding forest species.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Replacement of native forest with plantations is the most serious threat to the site. Part of the area is owned by and used for ecological research by the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
