Site details
Site description: A mountainous area on the border with Albania. At higher altitudes there are extensive areas of alpine pasture and some conifer forests. Lower down, deciduous forest and scrub dominates. Human activities include stock-raising, hunting, and forestry.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: This is an important site for raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca.

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The main threats are from shooting, the use of poisoned baits, and road construction. In 1997 HOS carried out a survey of Aquila heliaca.
