Site details

Site description: A polder landscape including a shallow lake, ditches, wet meadows and marshland, situated to the north of the city of Zaandam. This site, together with sites 068, 071 and 072, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL038) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: name and area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
